Assistance with Utility Bills
The Energy Assistance Program (EAP) can help you pay your heat and electric bills. EAP is a federally-funded program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services called the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Contact Human Services, Inc. for the LIHEAP program for Bartholomew County Residents or Ohio Valley Opportunities (OVO) for Jennings County residents.
Disconnection Protections (LIHEAP)
- Winter Moratorium (Dec. 1–Mar. 15): Electric service will not be disconnected for residential members who have applied for or are receiving LIHEAP assistance during this period.
- Summer Heat Protection (95°F Heat Index): Service will not be disconnected on days when the National Weather Service forecasts a heat index of 95°F or higher (within 48 hours) for members who are eligible for and have applied for LIHEAP in the current calendar year. If a disconnection is scheduled on such a day, it will be postponed until conditions fall below the threshold.
Salvation Army and Love Chapel can assist with utility payments.
Township Trustees also provide emergency assistance to individuals and families in need who qualify based on township assistance standards.
