“Beat the Peak” is a voluntary program that encourages Bartholomew County REMC members to conserve or limit energy usage during peak times.
Why Get Involved?
Your cooperative pays a monthly demand charge based on the peak hourly usage during the month. This accounts for a large percentage of the cost of electricity for our members. By cutting back on the amount of wholesale power purchased during these peak periods, Bartholomew County REMC can reduce its total wholesale power costs. This will help hold down the cost for our members.
What Do I Need To Do?
Peak periods occur in the months, June, July, Aug. and Dec., Jan., Feb. when the demand for electricity is the highest. Usually, these are a day or period when it is very cold or hot outside. During this time, members are asked to use energy wisely and follow these guidelines:

BCREMC will alert you of the “Beat the Peak” period through the Smarthub app and text message notification. Included in the notification will be the anticipated day and time of the peak period. It is important that you reduce energy consumption during this critical period. *Message and data rates may apply*

If you are currently signed up for Smarthub you will automatically receive notification of an approaching “Peak Period” or time when your Cooperative is purchasing wholesale power at the highest prices. Your help in conserving energy during these “peak” periods reduces your Cooperative’s energy costs and ultimately your energy costs.
