2026 Unclaimed Capital Credits Search
Bartholomew County REMC (BCREMC) is a member-owned electric cooperative. Capital credits reflect each member’s ownership in the co-op. Any margins or revenues remaining after all expenses have been paid are allocated to the cooperative’s members in proportion to their electric usage for that year. Once margins have been allocated, they are used by the cooperative for approximately 25 years. After 25 years, and/or when the cooperative’s financial condition warrants, assigned margins are returned as cash.
The process of returning margins to the membership is known as a retirement. BCREMC retired capital credits for those receiving electric service during the years 1997 and 1998. BCREMC also refunded capital credits retired from Hoosier Energy, our wholesale power provider, for the years 1994 and 1995, as well as a special retirement for the years 2021 and 2022.
The list of names and dollar amounts represents members who have uncashed checks or undeliverable addresses from retired capital credits. We would appreciate your assistance in helping us return these patronage funds to the proper owners. If you are listed, please call 812.372.2546 or stop by the BCREMC office at 1697 W. Deaver Road. If someone you know is listed, please have them contact our office to claim their funds. Verification of address during the designated years and proof of identification will be required. If someone in the listing is deceased, a will and death certificate submitted by the next of kin will be required. Checks will be issued approximately 8 weeks after providing the required information. These funds will no longer be available 60 days after the date of this publication. Any unclaimed funds will become part of the 2026 margins.
