Annual Meeting for Bartholomew Co. REMC  

 

The annual meeting was held on April 15th.  905 registered members plus guests were in attendance for the meeting.  It was a record breaking crowd.

 

Special Vote Conducted

 

A special vote to amend BCREMC’s Articles of Incorporation was conducted at the annual meeting. The board of directors of Bartholomew County REMC recommended that the Articles of Incorporation be amended to: 1) describe the electric service area of the corporation using the IURC (Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission)- approved USGS (United States Geological Survey) facet map references; 2) clarify that all other business of the corporation other than the retail sales of electricity may be conducted within and outside the State of Indiana; 3) establish membership fees for persons and entities in the bylaws and 4) allow election voting by mail, electronic means such as the Internet, and by telephone.

 

Items 1 through 3 passed.  Item #4 was tabled.

 

2008 Director Winners


District 3

 

Dan Fleming, 4040 W. Lowell Road, Columbus, is a candidate for director in District 3. He is a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County. Fleming is employed by Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corporation where he is a sixth grade teacher. He is also employed by Reising Radio Partners as ag director for QMIX 107.3, KORN Country 100.3, and Tree Country AM 1330 in Greensburg. Previously, he was a full time cattle feeder and farmer. Along with his family, Fleming still produces and sells freezer beef and lamb. He is a past regional director for the Indiana Beef Cattle Association, Indiana Beef Council, and past president of Bartholomew County Beef Cattlemen’s Association. He is also a class four member of the Indiana Ag Leadership Institute. Fleming is a graduate of Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He is also a graduate of IUPUI’s School of Education.

 

His church family is the First United Methodist Church in Columbus, where he enjoys playing music as part of the second service praise team.

His own family includes his wife, Lynne, a BCSC teacher of vision impaired students; son Peter, a student at Purdue University; son Clinton, a student at Ball State University; and son Travis (Lydia), U.S. Army, currently serving in Iraq.

 

District 6

 

Curt Burbrink, 2402 E. 950 S., Columbus, is the incumbent director seeking re-election for District 6. A lifetime resident of Columbus, he is a graduate of Columbus High School and holds a degree in business administration from Olivet Nazarene University, Kankakee, Ill.

 

Burbrink and his wife, Jerri, are both school bus drivers for the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. They live at his old home place west of Jonesville. The Burbrinks have three sons, four grandsons and one granddaughter. He and his son, Justin, farm 1,300 acres in Bartholomew County. He is a member of Seymour First Church of the Nazarene.

 

For the past 20 years, Burbrink has been an active Bartholomew County REMC board member on the local, regional and national levels. He has completed his director certification through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association and has earned his Credentialed Cooperative Director designation. He has served as vice president of the REMC board of directors for the past 14 years and currently holds that position.

 

Nominating Committee Winners

District 3

 

Jeff Blue, 6700 W. Lowell Road, Columbus, is a candidate for the nominating committee for District 3.

 

Blue is a graduate of Bainbridge High School and Butler University and has resided in Bartholomew County since 1969. He is married to Marlene and they have a son, Matt, and a daughter, Tahcia. They also have three granddaughters. Jeff is the owner of Blue’s Canoe Livery and Blue’s Self Storage.


 

District 6

 

Karen Fiesbeck, 3320 W. 600 S., Columbus, is a candidate for the nominating committee for District 6. She is a graduate of Columbus North High School and resides on a farm southwest of Columbus.

 

Fiesbeck volunteers at the pregnancy care center and enjoys scrapbooking, shopping, and working in her flower beds.

She attends St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and volunteers for the on-call Stephen Ministry. Fiesbeck is married to Frank and they have three daughters and nine grandchildren.
